Actor, director, and producer Sudeep joins TeachAids team
The multi-talented and award-winning actor, Sudeep, has joined TeachAids as the voice of the male doctor in the Kannada version of the HIV education materials. Famous for his roles in the Kannada and Bollywood film industries, Sudeep is an actor, director, producer, writer, and singer. He brings years of experience to the TeachAids team.
Sudeep is from Shimoga, Karnataka. Before becoming an actor, he studied mechanical engineering at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, where he also played cricket. This year, he used his fame and skill as captain of the Karnataka Bulldozers to lead his team to victory in the Celebrity Cricket League.
His acting career began on television, where he performed in the show Premada Kadambari. His soon moved into movies, starting with a supporting role in the film Thayavva in 1997. He is, perhaps, best known for his roles in Kannada films such as Sparsha, Huchcha, and Mussanje Maatu in his earlier years, and Veera Madakari, Just Math Mathalli, Only Vishnuvardhana, and Eega more recently. In 2013, his film Bachchan was released globally and he also won several awards including Best Supporting Actor – Telugu at the 60th Filmfare Awards for his role in Eega. In 2008, he debuted in Bollywood with a part in the movie Phoonk. Along with his acting roles, Sudeep has directed numerous successful films. His directorial debut, My Autograph, was a box office hit.
Over the course of his career, Sudeep has been recognized as a leading actor in the Indian film industry. Three years in a row, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Kannada for his roles in Huchcha, Nandi, and Swathi Muthu. He has also been recognized with the Karnataka State Award for Best Actor, which is considered the highest award bestowed upon outstanding films and performers in the Kannada Film Industry by the Government of Karnataka. When asked about the role that celebrities play in the TeachAids animations, Sudeep responded, “Everybody has their idols, everybody has their heroes in life, so when they come and try to do something, it’s just a way of capturing [the learner’s] attention… The only thing I can say is, ‘Watch it.’”
Thanks to the dedication of celebrities like Sudeep, the Kannada TeachAids animated tutorials have been approved by the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS). KSAPS plans to distribute 30,000 copies of the TeachAids materials across the state of Karnataka, which has a population of over 61 million. Sudeep’s award-winning success in film makes him a familiar voice for the role of the male doctor. Sudeep joins other cultural icons to empower people in Karnataka to protect themselves against HIV and AIDS.
In partnering with TeachAids, Sudeep is joining a team with other influential celebrities who have played the voice of the male doctor, including Nagarjuna in the Telugu version and Amol Palekar in the Marathi version.
