Ray Anderson, the Athletic Director at Arizona State University, has joined the TeachAids advisory committee on the CrashCourse initiative. His broad, holistic leadership approach has helped transform ASU into one of the most innovative brands in college sports.
Since his appointment in 2014, Anderson’s mission was to make ASU nationally competitive in all 26 sports. By 2017, Anderson added four new varsity sports, forged a plan to rebuild Sun Devil Stadium, and negotiated an eight-year $33 million dollar Adidas partnership. He hired 16 new varsity coaches, including top-tier hires Bob Bowman, Bobby Hurley, and Herm Edwards. Edwards’ hiring was one of the most publicized hiring decisions in the nation.
Anderson has elevated Sun Devil performance both on and off the field. In addition to expanding educational and scholarship opportunities for ASU recruits, his athletic department recorded an all-time high 87 percent graduation success rate (GSR) for student’ athletes in 2016, second only to Stanford in the Pac-12. Anderson supports other important issues in athletics as well. He was part of the group that encouraged the “Rooney Rule,” an effort to strengthen diversity in the hiring of athletics leadership.
Forbes named Anderson one of the “25 Most Influential Minorities in Sports” with other legends like Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, and Lebron James. Sports Illustrated also recognized him on “101 Most influential minorities in Sports.” In addition to his many awards and accolades, Anderson sits on the Board of Directors for Green Sports Alliance, among others.
Anderson graduated from Stanford with three letters in football and two in baseball before attending Harvard Law School. After serving the NFL front office for eight years, Anderson left to join the Sun Devil leadership team.
TeachAids welcomes Ray Anderson to the CrashCourse advisory team. His ambitious leadership and innovation will help TeachAids develop revolutionary concussion education materials for the millions of youth actively engaged in sports across the US.
