Throughout 35 years of medical practice, Dr. Gordon Matheson has served as a leader within the athletic medicine community. He is professor emeritus at Stanford University School of Medicine, founder of the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, and has been the team physician for multiple collegiate and professional teams.
At Stanford, Dr. Matheson treated student athletes and served as a mentor for countless medical and pre-medical students. He taught introductory courses about sports medicine for undergrads, and had an active research program with 200 publications and 250 lectures in 16 countries. He also created the Division of Sports Medicine, and was a member of the Medical School Admissions Committee.
Dr. Matheson’s leadership spans across the country and beyond. He has been the Team Physician for Stanford teams, the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team, the Vancouver Canucks (NHL), and the Golden State Warriors (NBA). He also headed the International Olympic Committee Disease Prevention Working Group, and served as an expert for the World Anti-Doping Agency. He currently works as a healthcare consultant.
