TeachAids, beneficiary of Stanford’s ‘Rhythms’ multicultural show
TeachAids has been selected as the beneficiary for Sanskriti’s 2011 annual multicultural benefit show, Rhythms. We would like to thank the organization for supporting our outreach and education efforts, particularly in South Asia.
Stanford University’s primary South Asian undergraduate organization, Sanskriti maintains over six hundred group members from the undergraduate, graduate, and faculty populations. The organization has strengthened awareness of South Asian culture by exploring history and tradition, addressing issues of sociopolitical importance, and promoting performances and lively arts to the Stanford community for over twenty years.
Rhythms remains Sanskriti’s largest multicultural performance showcase of the year. The show will include performances from several renowned groups, including Catch a Fyah, Basmati Raas, Kayumanggi, Mariachi, Raagapella, Taiko, and Talisman. Raagapella, Stanford University’s all-male South Asian focus a cappella group, has performed alongside internationally acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman. Taiko fuses traditional Japanese drumming sounds in a contemporary ensemble and has toured Japan and Thailand, where they performed at Thailand’s National Theatre. Finally, Talisman, the largest South African-inspired a cappella group in the United States, has performed at the White House, with 10-time Grammy award winner Bobby McFerrin, and at the 1996 Olympics Games.
Rhythms will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 7:30PM in Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are available at the Stanford Ticket Office. We look forward to seeing our supporters in celebration of the diverse and multicultural performing groups at Stanford.
