Professional Cyclist Alison Tetrick Shares her Road to Recovery from a TBI
This week from the CrashCourse Concussion Story Wall the spotlight falls on professional cyclist Alison Tetrick. In 2010, Alison suffered a TBI from a crash in the middle of a race. She was able to bounce back and return to racing quickly, but soon after received another concussion. Alison explains her long term symptoms, and how she was able to recover from the hardest and most frustrating aspects of her injury. “It is incredible that CrashCourse by TeachAids and the Brain Injury Association of America have joined together to kick-off Brain Injury Awareness Month with the launch of the Concussion Story Wall!” she says, “Having experienced a challenging brain injury, I’m certain that this powerful resource will make all the difference”. Alison Tetrick is a professional cyclist who represented the USA in the Pan American Games. In 2014, she finished 3rd at the UCI World Championships Team Time Trial and won stages at the Tour de San Luis in Argentina and the BeNe Tour in Belgium. After these wins, she was ranked within the top 10 professional racers in the world by the UCI. She then began gravel racing, and won her first race at DK200, setting the current course record. Alison went on to become 3x Gravel Worlds Champion. While continuing to race professionally, Alison earned a M.S. in Clinical Psychology, specializing in biotechnology and the endurance sports industry. Alison serves on the Board of Directors of USA Cycling and is also the co-founder and CEO of Saga Ventures, LLC, a consulting firm based on curating meaningful community engagement and brand activation.
