Rising Star Outreach brings TeachAids animations to children in leprosy colonies
Nestled in the heart of Kanchipuram District, in the northeast state of Tamil Nadu, dozens of young learners gathered to watch the TeachAids animations and learn about critical HIV/AIDS education during the Rising Star Outreach health seminar. Using a large white wall as their canvas, the 7th, 8th, and 9th graders watched the Indian animated tutorials alongside their instructors.
“It seems like we’ve been hearing about AIDS solutions for decades, but this is the first thing I’ve come across that has real potential to make a significant difference in the problem – at least in India – and I feel compelled to talk about it. We tried out the animations at Rising Star with phenomenal success. I now feel much more confident in our children’s ability to make informed choices as they get older.” – Amy Antonelli, Executive Director
Since the 1980s, 11 million people have been cured of leprosy in India. However, they continue to face terrible stigma resulting from societal discrimination. Rising Star Outreach conducts outreach efforts to assist patients that have been marginalized as a result of their disease. The organization’s mission is to help families affected by leprosy become thriving, self-sufficient citizens of India by the year 2020. Since 2000, they have worked actively to provide accessible medical treatment, education for children, and small business loans for those affected.
TeachAids is pleased to collaborate with outstanding NGOs, such as Rising Star Outreach, to improve HIV prevention knowledge among young learners.
