Olympic Long Team Mountain Biker Christopher Blevins Shares his Concussion Experiences
This week’s highlight from the CrashCourse Concussion Story Wall is cross country mountain biker, Christopher Blevins. In this interactive database, one can follow his story from cause of injury to recovery tips and retrospective advice. Blevins experienced his first concussion on his BMX bike when he was 10, and had another later in his biking career at age 17. In his videos, Christopher emphasizes the importance of listening to your body, and being patient with your recovery. “I am so proud to contribute to the CrashCourse Concussion Story Wall,” he says, “This rings especially true to me, as biking is the greatest cause of sports related concussions in the United States. Christopher Blevins won XC nationals in his age group when he was 16, and competed internationally on the road and mountain from ages 15-19 with USA Cycling. As a junior road racer, he won the Course de la Paix, a four day stage race in Czech Republic that is considered to be a Grand Tour for junior racers. For the first two seasons of his U23 career, he raced for Axeon on the road bike, and Specialized Racing on the mountain bike. In 2018, he won U23 cyclocross nationals, a stage of the Tour of the Gila, and later in the year was 2nd at the Cross-Country World Championship. In 2019, he decided to focus on mountain biking with an eye on the Tokyo Olympics.
