Luli Parish educates young people in Ghana
In July 2011, 200 people from the Eglise Du Christianisme Celeste-Luli Parish in Aflao, Ghana gathered in small rooms with bamboo covered walls with the common goal of learning about HIV and AIDS through the TeachAids animations. In order to accommodate the large number of learners, parish members arranged multiple education sessions. The sessions were attended by health workers, religious leaders, and community members. The adults and young people sat together as they learned about how to protect themselves and their loved ones.
“The tutorials are the best solutions since every body, even those who were not well educated, can also watch and understand them. It helps them keep the content in memory and make the best choice for themselves.” – The Luli Group
The success of the TeachAids session prompted educators to discuss integrating the software into other awareness campaigns within their respective communities.
The Eglise Du Christianisme Celeste-Luli Parish was established in 2005 with the aim of empowering individuals through spiritual and physical support. With an estimated 260,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Ghana, Luli Parish sought to combat the challenges through a “community to community” education campaign. The parish currently operates a health center that serves as a basis for educating HIV-positive individuals about their illness and equipping others with tools to prevent transmission.
Eglise Du Christianisme Celeste-Luli Parish began their educational efforts with the aim of eradicating the virus from their community. In order to reach students outside of schools, the parish will begin screening the animations during school breaks and vacations. As the parish continues to expand their campaign, they aim to secure a location to screen the animations for more than one thousand individuals to view the materials. Their educational sessions will continue throughout the year.
TeachAids commends the Luli Parish for their “community to community” HIV education campaign and their efforts to empower vulnerable populations. We look forward to supporting Luli Parish’s efforts as they continue to expand their awareness campaign to eradicate HIV.
