TeachAids animations at Oakland International High School, California
Harriet Huang, a high school teacher at the Oakland International High School, screened TeachAids animations for her students in grades 9th and 10th as part of their comprehensive lessons on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention strategies.
The mission of Oakland International High School is to provide quality alternative education for recently arrived immigrant students in English language acquisition and in preparation for college. As an international high school, there are about 23 languages spoken within this school.
Harriet had planned out a curriculum for the quarter that focussed on reproductive health, STIs and sex education. Since the school focuses on building out collaborative projects as part of their curriculum, Harriet also invited Planned Parenthood preceding the week of HIV/AIDS unit using TeachAids materials.
“I’m really excited to show them all of the tutorials because a lot of them are really curious about HIV/AIDS issues.” – Harriet Huang
After running the animations for her students, Harriet was glad to report that the simple use of language, direct explanations and graphics in the TeachAids animations made it easier for her students to grasp the concepts well.
